Hello everyone, Patricia is here to share my mixed media tutorial Life on the moon.

I am so happy to be with you and share my art and inspiration with all of you. In this month Daily ART has proposed a very cool Mood Board to me has inspired me to the world of space. I´ve wanted to make a fusion of spring and the lunar world. I  hope you like it.

Mixed Media Tutorial Life on the Moon

Step 1

I used Hardboard plaque as a base for this project. I covered it with Gesso Paste Black and let it dry. I use Hardboard because there are so many shapes and I could not resist getting this one.

Tip: I often use hardboard shapes as bases for my mixed media projects. Hardboard is a surface similar to MDF, around 3 mm thick. It is hard and if you cover it with a layer of gesso you can make multiple layers of decoration on it. Hardboard is an inexpensive alternative to the canvas which makes it an ideal surface to make your first steps playing with colors.

Step 2

I applied Sand Texture Paste with Honeycomb Small Stencil by Daily ART and waited until the paste became dry. I colored the texture with Acrylic Paint and added some color on the surface without the texture. For this step, I have used ultramarine color, which is among my favorites.

Step 3

I colored decorative chipboard shapes with acrylics. I used carmine color, which is deep pink tint that will give some contrast to ultramarine used before. I also added few highlights with Patina of silver color.  To add more highlights I splashed white acrylic paint. Acrylics by Daily ARt are quite thick, so I have diluted the color with water to make splashes.

Step 4

I made few die cuts with Sizzix. I tinted watercolor paper with the carmine color of acrylics, let it dry and added texture with Velvet Paste. Well, the paper became dry I die cut it with Sizzix and got this beautiful leaves.

Tip: here is a project by Marisa ( Srap y Cia) where she shows more about painting with Velvet Paste. Check it.

Step 5

To add more shimmer and light to the project I have mixed Gel Medium Matt and Metallic Pigment gold and highlighted few spots on the surface. I added die cut of moon shape to my project which I also highlighted with the same mixture of Metallic Pigment and Gel Medium Matt.

Tip: The paste you get when you mix any medium with Metallic Pigment is outstanding. The mixture paste is bright, solid metallic deep color. This far this is the best true gold and silver imitation I have seen. But you have to use it all at once or Metallic Pigment will tarnish and fade. So only mix some small amount; ‘Once and use it at once.

Step 6

I added ribbons and flowers to the project to add more dimensional details. And I attached sentiment with the name of the project ” Life on the Moon”. Gel Matt Medium works pretty good as a glue.

I hope you like the Mixed Media Tutorial Life on the Moon will use some of my tips and ideas in your own decorations. This project is very special for me as this is my very first project for Daily ART and I love the medias and paints so much! I would love to see your projects for Daily ART Monthly challenge. Little kiss and bye!
